People with textural issues including fine lines and enlarged pores on the skin. The 1540 laser resurfacing is also FDA-approved for the treatment of scars and stretchmarks. Lines around the eyes (crow’s feet) are typically greatly improved with a series of three treatments. The entire treated area (e.g., face, neck, chest, hands) becomes smoother in the weeks and months following this series of three treatments. There is a tightening of the skin as well from the increase in collagen that is generated by your body in response to this technology. This is one of our patient’s favorite treatments due to its minimal discomfort and downtime, yet overall improvement in texture. It is even more impressive when combined with our other technologies (see 3D treatments).
What to expect during treatment
The 1540 laser resurfacing treatment feels like light rubber band snaps, which can be mildly uncomfortable in sensitive areas. Our providers have patients use a topical numbing medication before the procedure as well as special ice rollers during the procedure to minimize any possible discomfort. The 1540 laser resurfacing hand piece is truly state of the art and utilizes liquid cooling to soothe the skin and accelerate the recovery process.
What to expect after treatment
The 1540 laser resurfacing treatment is a non-ablative laser; this means it does not destroy any skin cells, it merely heats them up. Because of this, the healing process is quick, and you can return to work within a day or two.
The treated area is typically warm to the touch for an hour, which is treated with ice. After the initial heat there may be swelling for a 2-3 days, especially around the eyes. Makeup can be worn 12 hours after the procedure. Some redness and swelling may persist for a few days after the treatment, depending on your skin type. SPF 30+ is mandatory beginning 12 hours after treatment.
The skin will continue to improve for up to 6 months following a 1540 laser treatment. Since this treatment is milder, or “non-ablative”, the majority of patients will benefit most from a series of 3 treatments, spaced about a month apart. This treatment can be also done in targeted areas, such as for crow’s feet or lip lines only. It also works well on chest and neck lines, and is also FDA-approved for the treatment of scars and stretch marks.
